Why your Instagram engagement is falling

Gone are the days of chronological timelines as now Instagram is based on Algorithms, which means that less people are going to see your post unless you are doing something to get your post to the top of the timeline.

Here are a few reasons why your engagement has dropped and how to fix that!

1. REELS: THE NEW FLAVOUR IN TOWN

Following the rapid rise of TikTok and their video format, Instagram decided to launch their answer to TikTok – Reels! Reels have become Instagram’s primary focus and they are pushing it as much as they can and this is one of the reasons why your reach has diminished. Where you would typically get placement on the explore page for instance, now Instagram is letting Reels dominate that "Reel" estate, pun intended!

Solution: Get in on the action and post more Reels. Experiment with Reels to create the most engaging and eye-catching videos that are sure to be shared by your audience and to make it on the Explore page.

2. YOUR FOLLOWERS DON’T KNOW WHEN YOU POST

Solution:
Encourage your audience to turn their post notifications ON, so that when you post they will get a notification and be able to quickly engage with your posts. A great way to do this is by giving an incentive through your story. Or as a call to action in your caption.

3. YOU’RE NOT POSTING ENOUGH

Solution: Try to post more than 5 times per week. Studies have shown that if you post more than 5 times per week you can grow 56% more than others who do not.

4. YOU’RE NOT ENGAGING WITH YOUR FOLLOWERS

Solution: Interact with your followers. Make sure to reply to comments, like and comment a few of your followers posts and use your stories (through doing polls/questionnaires) to engage with your audience. Additionally, make sure your posts and captions encourage your followers to comment. Captions that are questions are AMAZING!

5. YOU'RE NOT POSTING AT PEAK TIMES

Solution: Switch to creators’ mode so you are able to see the analytics of your page. In this mode you will be able to see the optimal times to post on Instagram by showing you what times your followers are most active.

Instagram is constantly changing and finding ways to either attract more users or to get existing users even more glued to is, and as such you must always stay ahead of the curve to avoid any massive drops in engagement.
