Instagram tips for Beginners

When Instagram launched on July 15, 2010 no-one could have predicted their insane growth that has seen them pass a billion users in 2020.

Nowadays of course it's far more powerful than just a tool for taking cute pics with filters. It's now seen as a go to for businesses and individuals looking to expand their reach and as a result generate an income. We've been able to generate a solid income through our Beauty theme page @luvhairapp.

Here are some tips on how you can get started and what's important:

1. Clearly communicate what you do

Setup your profile properly. Use a great profile image and ensure that your Instagram username/handle instantly conveys what you do, and write a good Bio. If you're selling through Featurely don't forget to include your website URL.

2. Give your posts a distinctive look

Create and stick to your brand's visual identity - you can do this by adopting the same colours, fonts and image styles that you will use on other social media platforms and websites. Doing this makes sense for 2 reasons: you stand out of the crowd for prospective followers and also it improves the experience of your brand through consistency across all communication channels.

3. Brand your hashtag

Don't forget to add your brand name as one of the hashtags, and remember to use 4-5 hyper-relevant hashtags that describe your business or your audience and use these with every post.

4. Using links and landing pages

Presumably, you are using Instagram posts to encourage your audience to take an action, whether that is to sign-up to your business' newsletter, read your latest blog post or enter a competition. What ever the goal you have in mind for your audience, ensure that you have an appropriate link for example Featurely is being used by theme pages to sell promo/features.

5. Track what's working

Convert your Instagram page into a Business Page so that you have access to your Insights. These will show you traffic reports and give you a picture as to how effective your content is. Some other tools you can use to track things are; Google Analytics, Socialbakers, Sprout Social, Union Metrics and Squarelovin

Gettings started with something new can sometimes seem daunting, so please feel free to get in touch with us if you want clarification on any of the above, or if you just want support getting your page started.
